I post this short excerpt of Anatoly Vasilyev's famous 1985 Moscow production of "Cerceau" in memory of the actor Albert Filozov, who built his considerable reputation performing in Vasilyev productions. He also starred in Vasilyev's "Vassa Zheleznova" (1978) and "A Young Man's Grown-up Daughter" (1979). This clip focuses on Filozov; he is the one who is silent at the beginning and then later picks up the text of Viktor Slavkin's play. Filozov was born June 25, 1937, and died today, April 11, 2016. He was always a low-key actor, wry, somehow gentle, but never sentimental or sappy. He spent the first decades of his career in the company of the Stanislavsky Drama Theatre (which is where Vasilyev staged his early famous shows), and ever since 1989 he was a member of the company of Iosif Raikhelgauz's Contemporary Play School Theater.
